Meet the Guinea Pig!
Guinea pigs are friendly, furry pets that love to chat! They make adorable squeaking sounds and are very social animals. Unlike hamsters, guinea pigs are active during the day and love spending time with their friends—both other guinea pigs and people!
Home Sweet Cage
Guinea pigs need lots of space to run and play. A cage should be at least 120 cm long if you have two guinea pigs (and they're much happier in pairs!). Add tunnels, hiding spots, and soft bedding. Keep their home in a quiet, cool place away from the sun.
What They Eat
Guinea pigs are plant-eaters who need lots of hay, fresh veggies, and pellets. Give them carrots, lettuce, bell peppers, and cucumber every day. They also need vitamin C (just like humans!), so fresh food is super important. Always have fresh water available.
Keeping Them Healthy
Check your guinea pigs daily to make sure they're active and eating. Listen to their squeaks—they talk a lot! Trim their nails regularly and make sure their teeth stay healthy. If they stop eating or seem sleepy, ask a vet for help.
Fun Facts!
Guinea pigs popcorn (jump up and down) when they're happy! They were named after the country Guinea, even though they actually come from South America. They can't make their own vitamin C, so they rely on us to give it to them in their food!
